Council addresses water, sewer issues

GROVETON — The Groveton City Council water from the tap and from the drain at its Aug. 24 meeting.

Mayor Hayden Lee informed council that the sewer plant needed two air compressor pumps to help with the circulation process, which would cost approximately $6,000 each. No action was taken.

Relatedly, council members requested more detailed proposals from vendors who submitted the three bids received for the digital water meters. Those bids will be reviewed at the next regular meeting.

During the public forum, Groveton resident Sandi Richards asked how the city plans to pay for the new meters.

The council also amended protocol for delinquent utility accounts requiring that once a customer is 30 days in arrears, any past due balances be paid in full before next bill is due.

In other business, the council:

  • discussed resident Jabo West’s concerns about the fire hydrant in front of his house not being operable and why the city has city cell phones;
  • tabled an agreement for use of city property by business owners until it needs to be addressed;
  • repealed the ordinance for juvenile curfew;
  • approved the purchase of new street signage;
  • discussed retrieving up-to-date price lists from vendors the city uses;
  • approved hiring a commercial cleaning service to clean the police department, and will seek bids;
  • approved the Square being reserved for Sept. 5 by the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office for Patriot's Day;
  • approved the Square being reserved for Sept. 12 by the Sheriff's Posse for a fish fry; and
  • approved the Square being reserved for Oct. 16 by the Groveton Ex-Students Association for a dance.
