GROVETON — The Trinity County Commissioners Court will seek funds to improve the area around the Y.
At Monday’s court meeting, Commissioners Tommy Park said he and Grants Administrator Vicki Branch became aware of a grant that could be used to improve the county property.
“This grant can be used in part for the baseball fields and the area around the pond at the Y,” Park said. “I need approval for this. It’s a 50 percent match, but they will accept in-kind work.”
Park said that at the baseball fields, the funds could be used for a new batting cage, and on the county side, they can construct pavilions around the pond. The bond is $150,000 max, but Park said they would only seek a portion of those funds.
“Since I sit on the board of Tri-Cities Baseball, I don’t want to vote on this; I just wanted to bring this to your attention,” he said.
Branch said that they would seek between $50,000 and $75,000, and that would be a great benefit to the county.
Commissioners approved the measure 3-1, with Park abstaining. County Judge Danny Martin was not present for the meeting.
