TRINITY COUNTY —Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers investigated a crash on state Highway 94, near Bill Jones Road, that occurred June 3.
The preliminary crash investigation indicates that at approximately 4:06 a.m., a 2022 Ram 1500 police truck was traveling southwest. It is reported that the pickup left the road to the right, struck multiple culverts and a fence, then overturned.
The driver, identified as Deputy Terry Mitchell, was transported to Woodland Heights Medical Center for treatment.
Sheriff Woody Wallace said the incident occurred while the deputy was on duty. He also said that Mitchell had fallen asleep at the wheel.
The deputy was transferred to the hospital and sustained serious injuries. The injuries were first reported by minor but after time they have become more serious.
Wallace said that as of Monday, Mitchell had been released and is recovering slowly.
