Downtown Groveton comes alive with first Sip & Shop event

Downtown Groveton was filled with friendly faces on Thursday as shop owners joined together to welcome the community for the town’s first Sip and Shop. Patrons strolled the courthouse square, browsing local businesses and vendors while enjoying sangria or cucumber water, and catching up with friends.

Downtown came alive after 3 p.m. as visitors moved from shop to shop in search of unexpected finds.

Lori Jorgensen, owner of Roots and Restoration Home and a vendor set up at Riata’s with homemade baked goods, described the evening as a success. “I literally sold out of everything except for a couple of cookies, most of it within the first 30 to 45 minutes,” she said. Jorgensen shared that one of her customers was a man from England touring the United States on a motorcycle with friends — a reminder of how far Groveton’s charm can reach.

Donna Dixon, a local realtor and the event organizer, called the gathering a success.

“Today’s Sip and Shop was a big success! Thank you for coming out and supporting local,” she said. She noted that another Sip and Shop event is being planned for Mother’s Day, May 8.

The evening was organized by Donna Dixon and brought to life through the collaboration of local entrepreneurs. Participating businesses included Apothecary Fabrics, which offers a wide range of fabrics, thread, embroidery kits, candles and personalized items. Other participating businesses included Billie’s Resale, Ladies in Action, Tish’s Art School, The Grove Coffee Shop and Freddy’s Floral Shop.

The Riata on Main, a local event venue, opened its doors to host vendors such as LIV Rooted and Roots and Restoration Home.

Residents can follow the “Groveton TX Fairs, Festivals and Community Events” Facebook page to stay updated on future gatherings. Organizers say there is already discussion about hosting additional events to keep the community connected and support local businesses.
