Eagles win moves the team into postseason play

APPLE SPRINGS — Cooper Campbell’s work on the mound held the Zavalla batters to 4 hits and gave the Eagles a 9-2 win on Friday to move on to the Bi-District round of the playoffs.

Campbell tossed 11 strikeouts on the day while giving up only 2 walks.

Meanwhile, the offense had a field day, racking up 11 hits and 13 stolen bases, and Kayden Roden, Peyton Williams and Tristin Eddings each notching a double. Campbell led the team, going 3-for-4 with 3 runs and 3 stolen bases. Roden and Joseph Ocasiones each went 2-for-4 and added 3 steals and 2 steals, respectively.

The win put the team’s district record at 6-2, good for third place.

Centerville

The Bulldogs played Kennard in a doubleheader on Friday, winning both games — 17-0 in Game 1 and 15-0 in Game 2.

Brandon McWhorter led the way in Game 1, going 3-for-3 with 6 RBIs at the plate, and Hardy Brown led the way in Game 2, going 2-for-2 with 4 RBIs, including his third grand slam of the season.

Kolt Larsen, Wyatt Clede and Hardy Brown all combined for 7 shut-out innings on the mound, only allowing a combined 3 hits.

Centerville claimed the district championship going 9-0 in district play and remaining undefeated for the second-straight year. Centerville outscored their district opponents 117-1 this season, only allowing 1 run to Neches in the first district game followed by 8 straight shutouts, with 4 of those being no-hitters.

Kolt Larsen hit 3 home runs this season, all coming in consecutive games, and Hardy Brown also hit 3 home runs, they all came with the bases loaded resulting in 3 grand slams. Wyatt Clede and Chris Fry also contributed a homer each, giving Centerville 4 different players with a home run this season.

Centerville will face off against the Slocum Mustangs in Round 1 of the playoffs. It will be a best of 3 series with Games 1 and 2 on Thursday and Game 3 on Friday if needed. All games will be played at Central High School.
