The Trinity Volunteer Fire Department fought several fires last week, while the Groveton, Apple Springs and Pennington fire departments battled some small grass and forest fires.
Additionally, TVFD responded to a two-vehicle accident on FM 356 and Quail Creek Road. Fire Chief Keith Johnson said No one was injured in the crash.
On Sunday, the department responded to a vehicle fire on Highway 19 North at FM 1893. The SUV was a total loss. Trinity County Sheriff’s Office and DPS troopers assisted at the scene.
Previously, they responded to a wildfire in Lake L Acres on Darrell Hall Road at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
Johnson said the department responded with an engine, two brush trucks and a tanker, but the fire was able to extend across the road before firefighters were able to contain it.
The Texas Forest Service responded with a dozer and fire engine to put a containment line around the fire, which was contained at around 6 p.m. Also, 356 Fire Dept responded with a brush truck, engine and tanker to assist with extinguishing the fire.
•Groveton Volunteer Fire Department had to extinguish a truck fire on Highway 94 around FM 358 near Centerville on Saturday.
Fire Chief Glenn Hammond said they got the call a little after 5 p.m.
He said the cause of the fire may have been an electric short.
