GROVETON — Groveton High School’s University Interscholastic League competitors won their fourth state championship in five years after an intense and closely contested competition.
The victory came after weeks of preparation, including early mornings and late-night study sessions, reflecting the dedication of both students and coaches.
Lauren Gentry, a senior, tied for first individually with a new GHS record and won the tie-breaker essay, securing the individual state championship. Mason Mosley tied for third and triumphed in his tiebreaker to finish fourth, while Robbie Robertson achieved a personal best, improving by more than 20 points and placing sixth.
The combined top three scores totaled 267, the school’s second highest ever at state.
As in previous competitions, the team score was tied, making the performance of the fourth-highest scorer decisive. Madison Cathey delivered under pressure, securing the championship by a single point. Alternate Carmen Parson also demonstrated impressive improvement, highlighting the team’s depth and commitment.
Coach Jeremy Gentry praised the students’ perseverance, teamwork, and hard work, noting that every effort contributed to the victory.
The championship was celebrated as a testament not only to individual talent but also to collective dedication, making the win especially memorable for GHS.
