I would like to thank Dr. Jo Ann Andersson Beken, class of 1971, for her 10 years of service as President of Groveton Ex-Student Association. Her hard work, dedication and leadership will truly be missed. She has been instrumental in the ongoing success of the Ex-Student Association. She has overseen the growth of our scholarship funds and worked to add additional family donors to our list of scholarships in the names of our honored Ex-Student family.
Her shoes will be difficult to fill. We know that she is just a phone call away should we need her help. She is truly a Groveton Indian and wishes the best for all our Groveton Indian Students and faculty. The entire Ex-Student Executive Committee wish her the best.
We are coming to the end of our Fall 2024 Semester for our College Students. We funded 50 Groveton Graduates with scholarship money for the fall and these students have been notified to submit application for continued funding for Spring Semester 2025. It is a testament to our students and our faculty to have such a large number of students attending College.
Hopefully, we will have another large group of 2025 Groveton Seniors apply for scholarships in Spring. We, as Groveton High School Graduates, are always proud of our school system.
If you would like to start a scholarship in a family member’s name or give a memorial contribution, please contact us. The contributions and scholarships established help our Groveton college students achieve their next goal and hopefully someday, they will give back to future Groveton Indians.
The class of 2025 is approaching Graduation before you know it. They are halfway through the year. Each of these students are excited to move on to the next challenge and adventure. They will look back at their days at Groveton High School with a smile thinking of longtime friends, organizations and events they participated in.
At the same time, it has been 50 years since the class of 1975 graduated and 75 years since the class of 1950 graduated. I will reach out to some of these graduates and see what their fondest memories of Groveton High School were, if they can still remember. I will put their response in future articles.
.Our deepest sympathy and prayers to the family, friends and classmates of Mark Willis, class of 1978; Vickie Reese, class of 1987; and Matt Hancock, class of 1995. They are loved and remembered by so many.
Always a Good Day to Be a Groveton Indian.
Tim Coker is President of the Groveton Ex-Student Association.
