Groveton council changes slightly

GROVETON — The Groveton City Council has a new member after accepting the resignation of member Casey Anderson.

City Secretary Dorrie Cotton said that at the July 21 meeting, the council accepted a resignation letter from Anderson. The letter did not list a reason but was effective July 3.

Cotton said Anderson was serving his first term after being elected in May of 2024.

In the meantime, newcomer Darrell Harbuck was appointed to fill the vacant position; he will have to run in the next election in May of 2026.

In other business, council members:

  • awarded a bid of $19,325 to Matthew Evans Construction for roof and other repairs at City Hall;
  • approved paying the Inframark bill of $8,934.65 for water and wastewater services;
  • discussed bids for constructing a cover at the city’s well site and added the scope of work and will seek new bids;
  • approved seeking bids to sell a Ford Crown Victoria and a Chevy Tahoe;
  • approved an increase on residential and commercial sewer rates by $5 per month;
  • approved an increase on the cost of Dumpster rates from $1 to $8, depending on size of the container; and

postponed discussion of moving City Hall to the old police department building.
