Groveton doubles down on San Augustine wins

GROVETON — The Lady Indians outclassed district rival twice last week, winning 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-10) on Oct. 7 and 3-0 (25-18, 25-21, 25-22) on Friday.

In the early game, Kayleigh Albus hit 11 kill shots, while Jannett Bautista served 8 aces to Caila Antley’s 7.

Alina Veng led the team with 10 digs, while Bautista posted 10 assists.

On Friday, Albus hit for 17 kills, followed by Bautista with 10 kills.

Albus also had 26 digs, followed by Bautista with 18, Antley with 12 and Veng with 10. Bautista also had 16 assists, followed by Abbey Thornton with 13.

Trinity

The Lady Tigers had a big district win against Crockett in five games on Oct. 7 but fell to Anderson-Shiro 3-0 on Friday.

The scores against Crockett were 25-22, 13-25, 20-25, 25-18 and 16-14.

Carolyn Cleveland had 6 aces, Ka'Leigh Ford had 5 aces, and Braleigh Bush had 4 aces.

Valerie Cleveland had 7 kills, Braleigh Bush had 7 kills, Ashara English had 6 kills, and Jasmine Jordan had 5 kills.

Valerie Cleveland had 9 assists, and Carolyn Cleveland had 6 assists and 18 digs.

Against Anderson, the scores were 9-25, 8-25 and 12-25.

Carolyn Cleveland had 5 kills on the night, while Chrissie Vaughn led with a pair of service aces.

Vaughn also posted 19 digs, while Jasmine Jordan and Valerie Cleveland each posted 11.

The Lady Eagles were edged out by Oakwood 3-2 on Friday.
