GROVETON — After Groveton suffered a three-game skid following its opening game win, the Indians found their way back into the win column on Friday.

Although it took an extra quarter, Groveton downed the Iola Bulldogs 43-35 in overtime.

While the first quarter saw the teams swapping touchdown series with 2 apiece, Groveton pulled away by 2 touchdowns in the second to take a 28-13 lead into the locker room.

In the third, Groveton extended the lead to 35-13 with a TD pass, but then the Bulldogs tacked on three unanswered rushing TDs to enter the fourth quarter tied.

Neither team scored in the fourth; but in overtime, Groveton scored on the ground, and with the 2-point conversion, notched the W.

Head Coach Scott Green said they will always celebrate a win, but it would be better if they found a way to eliminate the penalties.

“All the extras could have cost us, but we cleaned it up and were able to finish the game right,” he said.
