Groveton goes 1-2 at Colmesneil Tournament

COLMESNEIL — The Indians dropped two games but won one during the weekend Colmesneil Tournament, losing to Apple Springs 60-47 on Thursday and to Kirbyville 37-32 on Friday, and downing Goodrich 60-39 on Saturday.

Jace Taylor had 33 points throughout three games, while Everett Snyder had 15, Kutter Minter had 23, Ruger McLain had 22, Jake Snyder had 19 and Bryce Williams had 16.

On Dec. 9, despite a 26-point second quarter scoring drive and a 35-20 lead going into the half, the Indians fell to Zavalla 55-41.

Ruger McLain put up 16 points in the game, while Jake Snyder scored 11.

Centerville

The Bulldogs traveled to Big Sandy on Dec. 9 for a rematch with the Wildcats. Big Sandy JV defeated Centerville JV 41-25 but the varsity game, a rematch of a recent tournament championship game that Big Sandy won in overtime 46-39, became w 46-39 win for Centerville.

Big Sandy opened the game with a 17-6 lead after the first quarter. Centerville cut the lead down to 4 at halftime. The Bulldogs controlled the second half earning a big road win 46-39 over the No. 25-ranked 2A Wildcats.

Kolt Larsen lead the way with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Iain Kendrick also poured in 18 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist and 4 steals to help Centerville improve to 8-5 on the season.

On Friday, Centerville overpowered Leggett 78-31. Kendrick led the charge with 16 points, while Hardy Brown and Chris Fry each had 11, and Eli Emmons hit 10.

Trinity

The Tigers dropped three straight at the Brownsboro Tournament over the weekend, losing 63-29 to Whitehouse on Thursday and 47-43 to Henderson and 50-45 to White Oak on Friday.

Head Coach Chris Harvey said the Dec. 9 matchup with Kennard was a good game but a buzzer beater by Kennard sealed the 62-59 loss.

Apple Springs

The Eagles split game last week, falling to Chester 53-49 on Dec. 9 but downing Groveton 60-47 on Thursday.
