PALESTINE — Despite an impressive 12-game win streak and an undefeated district record, the Lady Indians ran into an equally impressive Mildred team on Monday and lost 3-0 to end their postseason romp.

The scores in the final game of the 2025 season were 14-25, 21-25 and 15-25.

To get to the bi-district round, Groveton downed West Hardin 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-12) on Thursday.

Caila Antley piled up 12 kills, while Kayleigh Albus knocked over 11 and Alinda Veng 10. Antley also posted 6 aces, and Alinda Veng had 21 assists to Jannett Bautista’s 16.

Albus led with 30 digs, Antley and Veng each had 17, and Abbey Thornton had 15.

Apple Springs

Even though the Lady Eagles lost in the first round of the playoffs, Head Coach Raegyn Moreno said she was very pleased with how this season went.

Apple Springs lost a nail-biter match to Trinidad 3-2 (19-25, 17-25, 25-9, 25-21, 12-15) on Thursday in the district round.

“We had more losses than I (or the girls) would have liked to see, which is frustrating; however, what the people watching the games don't see is the hard work, dedication, and fight these girls had all season,” Moreno said. “More than wins, or stats, they learned how to be true competitors, and they learned how to have confidence in their abilities.

“That is my proudest accomplishment on the season — the way the girls molded into confident, competitive individuals,” she said.

Brooke Brister had an incredible game on Thursday, boasting 13 kills and 2 aces in the match. Faith Smith and Abrie McWhorter also had great outings: Smith had 9 kills and 1 dig, and McWhorter had 6 kills and 3 digs.
