Groveton overwhelmed by Lovelady on both sides of the court

GROVETON — The Jan. 13 loss to Lovelady gave the Groveton Indians was an awakening, one that pushed the team to improved performance in Friday’s game against Latexo.

The Indians had no answer to the Lovelady Lions’ attack and fell 51-6.

Ruger McLain, Jake Snyder and Jace Taylor made the three baskets for the team.

Against Latexo, the team improved some on offense, but the 52-29 score still favored the Tigers.

Centerville

No. 12-ranked Centerville hosted Apple Springs on Jan. 13, and sent the county rival home with a 95-38 loss.

Centerville scored 20-plus points in every quarter on the way to the win.

Head Coach Geoffrey Hollis said the win was the sixth in a row for the Bulldogs.

“Centerville has been putting up big offensive numbers which has led to some impressive individual achievements,” he said. “Senior Iain Kendrick surpassed 1,500 career points in the game last night and is averaging 20.3 points per game on the season. Senior Kolt Larsen is leading all of Texas (1A-6A) in assists per game at 10.”

Top performers in the game were Iain Kendrick with 33 points, 4 rebounds, 1 assist and 4 steals; Hardy Brown with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal; Kolt Larsen with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 17 assists and 3 steals; Braden White with 13 points, 16 rebounds and 1 assist; and Drew Larsen with 8 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 3 steals.

On Friday, the Bulldogs’ win streak was ended with a 74-50 loss to Kennard.

Larsen led the team with 17 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and a steal. Kendrick followed with 11 points, 2 rebounds and a steal.

On Friday, the Apple Springs Eagles notched a 57-27 win over Laneville, the team’s first win in district and third win for the season.

Trinity

The Tigers came up a little short Friday, dropping the first district game of the season in Onalaska 90-83.

This brings their district record to 0-1 and their overall record to 11-10.

Still, Darryn Bass managed to drop in 22 points, followed closely by Terian Maxie with 20. Rounding out the double-digit scoring was Ayden DeBose with 14, Chance Barron with 11 and Cord’e Walker with 10.

On Jan. 13, the Tigers were overpowered by Palestine 80-65.
