GROVETON — To coincide with election season, the Groveton City County approved an order for election to be held in May.

City Secretary Dorrie Cotton said that the matter was discussed at the Feb. 23 meeting.

The three positions up for election are currently held by Darrel Harbuck, Joe Don Kennedy and Donna Dixon. Cotton said that also throwing their hat in in the ring are Joseph Wood, Kamal Simmons and Charlene Singleterry.

Elections in Groveton take the top three vote-getters.

In other business, council members:

  • approved paying the water and sewer services bill from Inframark for $8,365.03;
  • approved use of The Square for Monica Guerrero for Movie Under the Stars on Mother’s Day weekend; and
  • postponed a discussion on solid waste rates.

At a special meeting held Feb. 18, council members approved contract with Hydros for water and sewer operations, replacing Inframark.

The contract with Hydros will be for $6,950 per month plus other costs and will take effect March 18. Inframark’s contract was for $5,500 plus additional costs.

The council also delayed action on purchasing a new truck for more information.
