GROVETON — In a week when half the games were cancelled because of weather, county schools were largely successful in their outings on the diamond.
Groveton was able to end the game after 6 innings, downing Corrigan-Camden 15-5 on March 31.
Blake Chaney got the win on the mound throwing 4 innings, giving up 1 run (earned) on 3 hits with 6 strikeouts, 3 walks, and a hit batter. Everett Snyder and Ty Torregrossa threw one inning each in relief. Ty Torregrossa finished the game by striking out the side with one walk.
Ty Torregrossa dominated the plate, going 2-for-4 with a 3-RBI triple, a double, a walk, and 2 runs scored.
Blake Chaney went 1-for-3 with an RBI triple, 2 walks, a stolen base, and a run scored.
Gunner Wilson had an RBI on a sacrifice fly and a walk.
Canyen Hollis went 1-for-3 with a single, a walk, an RBI on a sacrifice fly, and 3 runs scored.
Cooper Shanafelt went 1-for-3 with a single, 2 walks, and a run scored.
Jasper Due went 2-for-4 2 single, one of which drove in the game-ending run, a walk, a stolen base, and 2 runs scored.
Jace Taylor went 1-for-4 with an RBI single and a run scored.
Trystin Ard had a walk, 3 hit by pitch, an RBI, and 3 runs scored. Brayden Reynolds had a stolen base as Ard's courtesy runner.
Jett Arbuckle had a walk, a HPB, and 2 runs scored.
The Eagles just edged out Chester on March 31, winning the district matchup 7-6.
Cooper Campbell got the win, pitching 6 innings and firing 8 strikeouts while giving up 4 walks and 5 hits. Kayden Roden relieved for an inning and had 1 strikeout and gave up 1 hit.
Roden, Rance Howell and Angel Reyna all went 2-for-3 at the plate, which included a double from Roden. Peyton Williams also contributed a hit.
The Bulldogs move to 4-0 in district play and 9-0 overall with a 16-0 win over Neches on March 30 behind an offensive effort that outhit the Tigers 16-4, including a first-ever dinger from Chris Fry that drove in 2 runs.
The Tigers gave up a 2-run lead in the third and then allowed Anderson-Shiro to run up 12 unanswered runs to take a 12-2 win on March 31.
The pitching trio of Hunter Ogden, Matthew Bass and Jordan Bond couldn’t find the rhythm, firing only 5 strikeouts combined while 11 total walks and 9 total hits.
Trinity had equal difficulties at the plate, with Ogden producing 2 hits and Chance Barron and David Alexander each producing 1.
