GROVETON — The Texas Education Association, using metrics that have become the subject of a lawsuit, found that the Groveton school system needs improvement, and the school board approved plans to address that concern.
Superintendent Jim Dillard said that at the Jan. 27 meeting, the ISD’s Board of Trustees approved targeted improvement plans for the elementary and junior/senior high school
Dillard said that Groveton is currently under review for “perceived” deficiencies; each plan focuses on high-quality curriculum and approved specialized instruction materials, which TEA offers.
“We’re going to do what’s best for our students,” he said.
Dillard did point out that in the previous week, the Junior High UIL Academic team became district champs, and before that, the elementary school won district, and both schools have won this award two years running.
In the only other action item, the board approved the hiring of Scott Green as the new athletic director for the district. He is replacing Michael Waldie, who left Groveton ISD in December 2024 after a mutually agreed separation.
Green is coming from Lufkin ISD, where he has worked for more than 25 years and has 29 years of experience in coaching.
