GROVETON — The Groveton City Council has approved seeking grants of more than $8 million to fix streets and improve the utility infrastructure.
Mayor Ralph Bennett said the council discussed the matters at the Oct. 28 meeting.
Bennett said they are seeking a $4.2 million grant for streets offered through the state CDBG grant program. The grant will require a 10 percent match from the city.
This will go along with a Downtown Revitalization Grant of $500,000 to be used to pave West Front Street from the Square to the elevated storage tank, Bennett said.
Additionally, the city will seek another $4.2 million grant for water service, which will allow the city to replace wells, water lines and meters.
In a related matter, the council approved resubmitting a bid for grant administrators, as only one was returned.
In other business, the council:
•discussed extending the contract for solid waste disposal with Live Oak;
•discussed property for a new ground storage tank; and
•approved payment of $9,000 to Inframark for water and sewer services.
