GROVETON — Mackenzie Searle has become an officer for District 7 SkillsUSA, the first Groveton student to gain that honor.
SkillsUSA is a workforce development organization for high-school students.
No student from Groveton who has ever participated in VICA or SKILLS USA has done that; another first is that Searle is in the cosmetology program, which has never had an officer.
Becoming an officer requires an interview, a test on the history of SkillsUSA and a speech to 30 people that is memorable. Searle competed against 20 students.
In other developments, Senior Elizabeth Birdwell received Gold and Sophomore Areli Pedron received Bronze in the District 7 Flat Nail Art Competition.
Birdwell will now advance to state competition.
