Eagles Interim Athletic Director and Baseball Coach Jeremiah Dickson said games are going well in this new season, and he’s optimistic and excited to push these young men to greater successes.
“They have been eager to learn and try new positions I have placed them in,” Dickson said. “We are beginning to find our team chemistry that I hope will continue to grow stronger over the course of the season. Our pitching has kept us in most of our games, giving our bats time to find the ball.”
For instance, the bats found the ball well against Martinsville, as the Eagles blanked the team 10-0 on Feb. 20.
While the team went to the Latexo tournament over the weekend and went 1-2, the 11-3 win on Saturday was a bright spot.
“We have a young team this year and 4 players that have never played or started before,” Dickson said.
Apple Springs lost to Latexo 4-2 on Thursday and lost to Leon 10-9 on Friday.
The Tigers dropped five games last week, a 20-1 heartbreaker on Feb. 23 to Garrison, and then over the weekend Colmesneil Tournament, they lost Friday’s games, 13-1 against Colmesneil and 11-1 against West Sabine, and on Saturday, 18-2 to Kountze and 18-0 to East Chambers.
In the tournament, Tigers combined for 6 hits, 1 RBI, 19 strikeouts and 6 stolen bases across 4 games.
