GROVETON — There are some returning players, but this year, the Indians have a new coach, a new playing field, and a new attitude.
Coming off of a winless season, newly minted Athletic Director and Head Coach Scott Green said the best way forward is to look forward, not back.
“Our concept as a coaching staff is create opportunities to get better every day,” he said. “All we can do is watch film, evaluate what happened last year, and take the time to slow things down and teach each position.”
Green said they are spending time on detail, building confidence — necessary after a year like 2024.
Also, he said that at the beginning, they will be putting the best 11 players on each side of the ball, and work a few offensive and defensive packages and spending time using a two-back set.
“As long as we stay healthy, we should do very well,” he said.
Another issue is a team with only eight seniors, and a high number of younger players, and few with experience.
Leading the way will be Hagen Townsend, Landon Conley and Kuyler Parker, Green said.
“As a teacher, I can say that right now, we’re better at understanding the game, and getting good at something before we move to something else,” he said. “We’re gonna run our best 11, and we’ll have a system that fits the best 11. With our veterans, we’ll lean heavy on the run.”
Ty Torregrossa will lead the offense, but Green said he has good depth at the quarterback position.
“We lacked character last year, but we put them through a little pain, and will get a little more out of them,” he said.
