Last week, House Republicans continued work to cut burdensome regulatory red tape and unleash the full power of American energy independence and dominance. By streamlining regulations and advancing policies that support domestic production, we are working to lower costs and make energy more affordable for families and businesses across Texas and the country.
I also had the opportunity to meet with deer farmers from across Texas, Texas cattle ranchers, members of the South Texas Builders Board, and officers from the Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG).
In the House Financial Services Committee, I attended a legislative markup where my bill was considered, advanced, and successfully passed out of committee by a vote of 32-20. This is an important step forward, and I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to move this legislation through the House.
Thank you for staying engaged and for the thoughtful feedback many of you shared throughout this process. I remain committed to tackling these challenges with transparency, a readiness to work across the aisle, and a steadfast focus on protecting taxpayers and strengthening the long-term economic health of Texas and our nation.

As I noted during the markup, “HR 8290 would require the Secretary of the Treasury to oppose any increase in China's IMF voting power, giving them more power over these questions that abound until we can certify that China is publishing credible balance of payment data and is engaging in transparent exchange rate practices. I believe bringing China or requiring them to come to the table with reliable data and information is in the best interest of the entire world.”
I met with the officers from the Deep East Texas Council of Governments. As the congressman for four of DETCOG’s 11 counties, I value the strong local and federal partnership that allows us to best support our shared constituency.
We discussed ways to continue empowering local law enforcement, strengthening regional collaboration, and ensuring our communities have the resources they need. It was also an honor to recognize and celebrate DETCOG’s 60th year serving East Texas.
