Labor Day week also features homecoming

Posted

Mother Nature is teasing us. It was cold these last few mornings at 6 a.m. but the temperature only lasted until about 9 a.m. If we can stand the heat until Oct. 1, maybe we will have cool mornings and fall afternoons and celebrate when fall really comes into being sometime around Nov. 1.

News flash. There is a tropical storm heading our way and by the time you receive this publication we should have 6 inches of rain. I don’t believe this, because it is too good to be true information. We really do need the rain.

Next week is Labor Day Holiday week. It is also TISD Home Coming week with Friday’s Football game and activities falling on 9/11, a horrible day in the United States of America’s history.

The tailgate party for the Homecoming game starts at 6:30 p.m. in the THS football parking lot.

The Homecoming Court was announced last week, and the following students were voted to serve for THS Homecoming for 2026.

Congratulations to the Nominees.

•Another news flash. The Trinity County Veterans’ 18th fall fundraiser, which benefits the Wall of Honor Society, usually holds this event on the last Saturday in October. However, since this year the Halloween Holiday is on the last Saturday in October, they have decided to reschedule their event.

The event will now be held on Oct. 24, and the new facility hosting this benefit is the VFW Post 6899 in Trinity at 400 Caroline St. For the past 17 years the Wall of Honor fundraiser was held at Scheelbillies on FM 356, but it is now closed. Thank you for your great job and service to our county veterans.

Raffle Prizes will soon be announced, but one returning item on the menu this year is barbecue brisket sandwiches due to generous donations by the community. For more information, please contact Bill Reeves at (936) 661-7107.

•A reminder to Clients who eat at the Martin Senior Service Center on Mondays. The Center is closed on Mondays for three months. Lunch meals for dining will resume in November.

Activities on the other days remain the same. On Saturday and Sunday, the center is closed except for rentals. For that service, call Sherry at (936) 594-2625.

The Trinity Lions Club still meets on the first and third Wednesdays of each month at the Martin Senior Service Center on Walker Street and invites people to visit, eat, and join the organization that serves the blind, purchases glasses for the dis: abled, and pays for Trinity’s schoolchildren’s eyeglasses and exams.

Sept. 2 is a business meeting, but the next two programs will be by Police Chief Steven Jeter, who will be updating his official community activities, and a local speaker presenting a lesson on bird watching.

•I have two unconfirmed events. A night golf tournament on Sept. 5 at Westwood Shores. and a Trinity County Heavy Trash Drop off at Groveton and Trinity sites on Oct. 10.

Also, the Methodist Church is hosting their Dinner with Friends on the third Tuesday of the month at 4:30 p.m. with a gourmet hamburger menu, and for the next dinner information, please call Laura at (936) 594-3826.

Remember if we have 6 inches of rain, stay home. if you have to go out, turn around, don’t drown if you are unsure how deep the runoff water level water is. We do need the moisture.
