APPLE SPRINGS — Neches dropped into town for a doubleheader on March 31, and the Lady Eagles sent them home with a pair of losses — 8-1 and 19-6.
The wins give Apple Springs a four-game win streak.
In the first game, Faith Smith got the win, pitching 9 strikeouts and giving up only 1 hit, 1 run, and 1 walk. Summer Lamb led at the plate with 2 hits, and got help from Smith, Abrie McWhorter, Sophie Oldham, and Brilynn Hicks.
Smith also got the win in the second game, tossing 5 strikeouts in four innings while giving up 2 hits and 4 walks. Lamb relieved for an inning, tossing a strikeout but giving up 4 walks.
The Lady Indians posted a loss to No. 17-ranked Corrigan-Camden on March 31, losing a pitcher’s duel 2-0.
Corrigan opened scoring in the top of the first, the only plating for either team until the top of the 7th, when Corrigan scored again.
Groveton managed 6 hits on the night, 2 coming from Gracie Kane and one each from Lauren Moore, Lainee Reed, Kambrie Crawford and Madisen Howard.
Abi Kayte Roberts pitched the full game, tossing 7 strikeouts to Corrigan’s 6, and walking only 2 to Corrigan’s 4. She also only gave up 3 hits to Corrigan’s 6, but the Lady Bulldogs’ were able to cross the plate.
The Lady Tigers were outclassed 16-1 by Anderson-Shiro, which is ranked 7th in 3A by the Texas Press Association.
The game was called in the 3rd for the run rule after the Lady Owls, who were up 8-1, scored 8 runs in the bottom of the 3rd.
Valerie Cleveland got the loss, throwing only 1 strikeout while giving up 12 hits. Chrissie Vaughn got the lone hit for Trinity.
