Lady Indians extend win streak to eight

GROVETON — The Lady Indians notched two more wins on the volleyball belt and move to 8-0 and first place in the district.

On Oct. 14, Groveton downed Colmesneil 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-12), led by top hitter Kayleigh Albus, who posted 13 kills and 16 digs.

Jannett Bautista served up 8 kills on the night, while Alinda Veng gave the team the opportunity with 14 assists.

On Friday, the Lady Indians slayed the Dragon, downing Shelbyville 3-1 (25-10, 25-14, 23-25, 16-25).

Albus and Bautista both posted 10 kills, while Bautista served up 13 aces.

Addison Randall posted 5 solo blocks while Caila Antley logged 14 digs to Albus’ 13 and Bautista’s 10.

Veng logged 23 assists, while Bautista had 15.

Trinity

The Lady Tigers posted two more losses last week, falling to Onalaska 3-0 on Oct. 14 and 3-0 to New Waverly on Friday.

Against New Waverly, Braleigh Bush led with 4 kills. On defense, Ka’leigh Ford had 30 digs, Carolyn Cleveland had 19, Chrissie Vaughn had 14 and Valerie Cleveland had 10.

Stats for the Oct. 14 game were not available.

Apple Springs

The Lady Eagles lost to Kennard 3-0 (8-25, 21-25, 23-25) on Friday.

Head Coach Raegyn Moreno said key players in Friday's game were sophomore Brooke Brister, who had several crucial kills in the match, as well as sophomore Savannah McLennan, who led the team as setter and had several kills at the net as well.
