Lady Indians light up the hardwood with a pair of exciting wins

GROVETON — “Never Say Die” was the catchphrase for the Groveton Lady Indians last week, who pulled off a thrilling come-from-behind 46-43 win over Lovelady on Jan. 13, and then spent two overtimes to down Latexo 41-39

Against Lovelady, Groveton trailed Lovelady for the first three quarters and most of the fourth, but with increased pressure, the Lady Indians were able to force turnovers, and after a clutch steal from Lauren Moore and a shot at the buzzer from Kayleigh Albus, Groveton was able to walk away with the win.

Top players in the game were Kayleigh Albus with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 3 blocks and 2 assists; Kady Lee with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals; Areli Padron with 6 points; Lauren Moore with 6 points, 2 assists, and 1 block and 1 steal; Katie Gentry with 4 points; Kinlee Albus with 4 points; and Caila Antley with 2 points.

Then on Friday, the Lady Indians held on to get the win in a double overtime affair in Latexo.

Leading the way was Katie Gentry with 11 points and 14 rebounds; Kayleigh Albus with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals; Kinlee Albus with 5 points, 10 rebounds and 2 steals; Lauren Moore with 8 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals; Areli Padron with 4 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists; and Kady Lee with 5 points, 16 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists.

Centerville

The Lady Bulldogs pulled down county rival Apple Springs 63-18 on Jan. 13.

Top producers were Avery Brown with 24 points and 9 steals; Laney Peterson with 21 points; and Darbi Parker with 8 points, 5 steals and 5 assists.

On Friday, Centerville downed Kennard 53-28

Leading the way was Avery Brown with 28 points, 6 steals and 6 assists; Laney Peterson with 8 points and 6 steals; and Jordyn Jones with 6 points and 9 rebounds.

The Lady Bulldogs are now 13-8 on the year and 5-2 in district play through the first round. 

Trinity

The Lady Tigers added a pair of wins last week, beating Crockett 58-29 on Jan. 13 and then Onalaska 62-46 on Friday.

Against Crockett, Mariah Tyson led the way with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Braleigh Bush added 11 rebounds, and Alexa Pruitt pulled down 10.

Against Onalaska, Tyson again had the hot hands, hitting for 19 points while grabbing 21 boards. Bush added 16 points, Bree Davidson added 13 points, and Paetyn Jolly nabbed 10 rebounds.
