Lady Indians place third in Colmesneil tournament

COLMESNEIL — The Groveton Lady Indians went 2-1 at the R.B. Moffett Invitational over the weekend, losing to Big Sandy on Friday but winning 47-17 over Chester on Thursday and beating Colmesneil 32-28 on Saturday.

The effort was good enough for third place.

On Dec. 9, the Lady Indians downed Wells 45-20.

Centerville

The Lady Bulldogs outscored Leggett almost 2-to-1 for a 54-28 win on Friday.

Head Coach Kevin Parker said Leggett won 48-46 in the first game of the year at Centerville’s gym, so the team was glad to go to them and get the win.

Top producers were:

  • Avery Brown with 17 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 6 steals, 3 deflections.
  • Darbi Parker with 10 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 7 steals, 4 deflections.
  • Laney Peterson with 17 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 deflections.

Parker said the team is 8-6 on the year.

Trinity

The Lady Tigers split two games on the week, downing Cushing 75-38 on Dec. 9 while losing to Huntington 66-59 on Friday.

Against Cushing, Braleigh Bush put up 21 points, while Mariah Tyson scored 15 and pulled down 17 rebounds. Emma Sustaita also scored 15 points.

Against Huntington, Braleigh Bush scored 20 points and Mariah Tyson scored 19. Tyson also pulled down 10 rebounds.

Apple Springs

The Lady Eagles lost two games at the R.B. Moffett Invitational over the weekend, losing 37-15 to Colmesneil on Thursday and 33-32 to Spurger on Friday.
