GROVETON — Groveton went 4-1-1 in the Franklin tournament, showing how they remain a perennial softball powerhouse.
The team currently sits at 9-2-2 overall in the young season.
Even though Silsbee won the final game on Saturday 2-1, the Lady Indians outpaced them at the plate 9 hits to 6, with Maryssa Rivers leading the way with 2 hits. On the mound, Abi Kayte Roberts tossed 5 strikeouts.
Prior to that, Groveton blanked Lorena 5-0 and downed White Oak 7-0. Against Lorena, Gracie Kane led the way with 2 hits and an RBI. Abbey Thornton and Roberts shared mound duty, with Thorton taking the win. The two combined for 4 strikeouts while giving up 4 hits. The two also pitched against White Oak, tossing 7 strikes and giving up only 4 hits.
On Friday, Groveton tied with Groesbeck 1-1 and beat Madisonville 11-0 and Midway JV 15-0. Altogether, the Lady Indians combined for 30 hits, 23 RBIs and 10 strikeouts on the day. In the Madisonville game, both Maryssa Rivers and Reaghan Benton cracked homers.
On Feb. 24, Pollock Central was blanked by Groveton 11-0. Leading at the plate were Madisen Howard and Kane, who each went 3-for-3. The pitching duo of Roberts and Thornton combined for 10 strikeouts while giving up only 1 hit.
The Lady Eagles lost to Mount Enterprise 24-9 on Feb. 24.
Leading at the plate was Faith Smith, who went 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs, followed by Katie Davis, who went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI. Smith also had mound duty, tossing 10 strikeouts but giving up 11 hits and 14 bases on balls.
Apple Springs rebounded on Friday, blanking Trinidad 24-0.
Sophie Oldham led at the plate, going 4-for-4 with 3 RBIs, followed by Abrie McWhorter who went 2-for-3 with 4 RBIs, and Smith who went 2-for-3 with 5 RBIs. Summer Lamb picked up the win on the mound, throwing 11 strikeouts while giving up only 2 hits.
The Lady Tigers were outclassed by Alpha Omega Academy 15-5 on Feb. 24.
At the weekend Latexo Tournament, Trinity went 4-1, losing to Lovelady 6-1 on Thursday, beating Latexo 5-2 and Westwood 11-3 on Friday, and beating LaPoyner 3-0 and Oakwood 15-3 on Saturday.
Against Oakwood, Asis Cerda, Summer Ogden, Chrissie Vaughn, Emilyn Gates and Mackenzie Slimp each had two hits apiece. Ogden got the win on the mound with 3 strikeouts and only 1 hit.
Against LaPoyner, Cerda, Vaughn, Valerie Cleveland and Slimp all had hits, and Valerie Cleveland got the win.
Against Westwood, Vaughn, Gates, Valerie Cleveland, Carolyn Cleveland and Amber Arredondo all had hits, and Ogden got the win on the mound.
Against Latexo, Vaughn and Valerie Cleveland each had 2 hits, and Ogden threw 5 strikeouts while giving up only 2 hits.
Against Lovelady, Cerda, Vaughn and Gates had single hits, while Ogden and Valerie Cleveland shared mound duty, combining for 5 strikeouts but giving up 3 wins.
