Line break leads to water outage in two subdivisions

A boil water notice has been issued by the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality for the Barrett’s Landing and Pine Forest Acres neighborhoods in Trinity County.

The notice was issued Thursday after a water line to the Chita system of the Trinity Rural Water Supply Corp. had broken in the Trinity River. The corporation states that a temporary line could be in place by Thursday.

In the meantime, TRWSC and the 356 Volunteer Fire Department is distributing water, both drinking water and non-potable, to area residents.

TRWSC issued a statement apologizing for the loss of service.

According to the notice, water must be boiled to washing hands/face, brushing teeth and drinking. Children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions).

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
