Lunch is always a great thing on the menu

With the events happening in the world, it is hard to focus on the tiny town of Trinity, but we have had our own tragedies here. There was a fatal car accident that took the life of one of TISD’s students. Death is for the elderly, not the young. Our prayers are with the family and the students of TISD High School.

In two weeks, the Martin Senior Service Center will celebrate during lunch time a St. Patrick’s Day fun day. St. Patrick’s Day is Tuesday, March 17, and we will have games, food, drinks, desserts, trivia contests. and the best dressed green person contest.

This is not a special-priced luncheon, but you will win prizes if you know your Irish green trivia and history. The Leprechaun Luncheon starts at 11:30 a.m. and if you don’t want to get pinched, then wear green.

The best-dressed green outfit or costume wins a $50 Gift Card to dine at Olive Garden. The Center is located at 400 Walker St. For more information, call Sherry at (936) 594-2625.

  • Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church continues their Lenten Fish Fry’s through March. They are March 6, 13, 20, and 27. Dine in or dine out. Cost of the catfish dinner is $12 for all plates.

Dinner is served from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus of the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The church is located at 401 Prospect Drive (Highway 19 North). For more information, call the church office on Thursday or Friday at (936) 594-6664.

  • It is hard to believe the amount of political mail that I have received in the last two weeks that I could buy 10 new Easter bonnets, shoes, dresses, and purses and go to Vegas for the cost of only one candidate’s announcements. Don’t forget, Rome burnt while Nero played his fiddle. He was given credit for starting the fire, but this was not true. He was 35 miles away at the time. So are the ads of some of the 2026 campaign literature-not true.
  • TISD Spring Break is March 9-13.
  • The Trinity County Fair and Youth Livestock Show is March 19-21 in Groveton. The event takes place at 229 Fair Loop in Groveton, and many activities are planned for all students in Trinity County.

There is a baked goods sale, a pet show, the 3rd Annual No Limits Show, the Livestock judging and awards show, live auction, and parade. Dates, times, and places vary, so watch for announcements and advertisements at many locations in Groveton. I will try to have the time and locations for all the events listed in next week’s edition.

  • Good Friday is April 3.

The party is on Saturday, April 4, at 10 a.m. There will be a cornhole tournament. a 3-legged race, a sack race, a hula hoop contest, a cake walk, and of course the Easter egg hunt for kids up to 14 years old.
