Marjorie Faye (Martin) Miller of Trinity, passed away peacefully on May 25th after a long year’s illness. She was born in the small town of Haslam, Texas, the third child and precious daughter of Willa Pearl and Lewis Shafter Martin. The family later moved to Houston where Marjorie, during WWII, met and married Andrew Daniel Miller, who was serving in the navy and had been raised on a farm in North Dakota. At the end of the war, the couple moved to a farm near Buffalo, North Dakota. Becoming a farmer’s wife out on the 1940s Dakota prairie was not easy for a southern city girl, but, as throughout Marjorie’s long life, she more than rose to the challenge. But enough was finally enough, and the family returned to Houston in 1956. Upon retirement in 1986, the couple moved to Trinity.
Marjorie’s treasure on earth were her three children, Wayne Richard, of Benicia, California, Rita Kay (Schneider), deceased, of Brenham, Texas, and Rochelle Elaine, deceased, of Houston, Texas. And her grandson, Brandon Richard Rankin, his wife, Susanne, her three great-grandchildren, Tyler Andrew Rankin, Nathan David Rankin, Ashlin Kay Rankin, and her great-great grandchild, Abriela Marrie Rankin. And, last but not least, her much loved son-in-law Stanley Schneider.
Marjorie was the perfect mom. She was a born movie lover. Her banana bread was the world’s best. Her cake making skills were the envy of many. Her greatest joy and her finest skill was friendship. She lived to socialize. She loved people. And people loved her. One of the richest discoveries of her long, beautiful life was Trinity Presbyterian Church. And the ladies’ crafts group that meets every Thursday morning. Those loving and lovable ladies became the center of Marjorie’s universe.
Among the very finest gifts that Fate placed in Marjorie’s passage through life was the warm friendship and the loving care of Billie White. This is true as well for Donna Holt, and Marjorie’s many neighbors who treated Marjorie as a member of their families.
There will be a memorial service for Marjorie on Saturday, June 28, 11:00 a.m., Trinity Presbyterian Church. 360
