Mary Sue Drinkard, 86, of Groveton, entered her eternal rest on April 24, 2025. She was born on Oct. 11, 1938, in Arbor (Houston County), to Edward and Lorine (Dunn) Fannin.
Mary Sue cherished life’s simple pleasures. She found joy in working in the garden, cooking hearty meals for her family and neighbors, and sitting on her front porch swing waving at everyone that drove by. Her kind heart and generous spirit touched many.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elwood Drinkard (2014); her parents, Edward and Lorine Fannin; and her brothers, Thomas, James and Jesse Fannin.
Mary Sue is survived by her children: Elmer Lee Drinkard; Mary Jewel Drinkard; Elwood Drinkard Jr.; and Susie Hammond and husband, Glenn.
Affectionately known as “Nanny,” she leaves behind a cherished legacy through her grandchildren, Elmer Drinkard Jr. and wife, Sandy; Daisy Brumley; Jamie Drinkard and Paula; Justin Hammond and wife, Kaleena; and Sidney Fuchs and husband, Patrick.
Her memory will also live on through her great-grandchildren, Casey Drinkard, Kyle and Chase Isget, Ethan and Sawyer Drinkard, Stormy and Kirby Fuchs; and her great-great-grandchildren, Blake and Ziggy.
She is also survived by her siblings, Charlie Fannin, Ivor Smith, Bobby Fannin, Billy Fannin and wife, Celeste, Della Russell and husband, Steve, and Ronnie Fannin. Numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends will continue to celebrate her life and memory.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Pennington Cemetery, with Bueford Rogers officiating. The family will receive visitors at the cemetery prior to the service. 270
