COLDSPRING —San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Deputy Sheriff Nathan Deweese was indicted Friday by a Trinity County Grand Jury for stalking, a third-degree felony.
According to the indictment alleges that Deweese engaged in a course of conduct directed toward an individual between August and November of 2025 that would “cause a reasonable person to feel fear and resulted in the complainant feeling harassed, alarmed and distressed.”
At the time of the alleged offense, Deweese was employed with the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office. Following the initiation of an administrative review earlier this year, Deweese was placed on administrative leave and later reassigned to a reduced rank based on policy violations.
Upon notification of the indictment and the nature of the charges, Deweese has been relieved of duty and his employment with the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office has been terminated effective immediately.
A release from the SJCSO states an indictment is not a finding of guilt but signifies that sufficient evidence was presented to an investigating authority and subsequently to a Trinity County Grand Jury, which determined there was probable cause to proceed with formal charges. The Grand Jury’s return of a true bill allows the case to move forward through the judicial process.
While Nathan Deweese is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, the San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office must also uphold its standards and responsibilities to the public, the release states. Due to the severity of the charge, Deweese can no longer remain employed with the agency while a third-degree felony charge is pending.
The San Jacinto County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and public trust, and allegations of criminal conduct are taken seriously and addressed through appropriate investigative and administrative actions, the release states.
The Office will continue to work in coordination with prosecutorial authorities to ensure accountability while upholding the rights of all individuals involved.
