LATEXO — The Trinity boys basketball team wins the gold after defeating a really good Tarkington team with a score of 72-59 on Saturday in the gold bracket of the Latexo tournament.
To get to the title bout, the Tigers won four straight, downing Alto 51-38 and Slocum 53-42 on Thursday, and beating Warren 58-51 on Friday.
Coach Christopher Harvey said he and the team had a heck of a game plan, and he coached the boys to their fourth straight victory.
Top performers against Tarkington include Ayden Debose with 29 points, Terian Maxie with 17 points, Daryn Bass with 9 points, and Cord’e Walker, who had 10 points and a ton of rebounds! The X-Factor of the game was Jamarian Corley who stepped up and played really big in the paint for the Tigers! Ayden DeBose and Terian both received the All-Tournament Award for their awesome play.
Against Warren, DeBose had 26 points while Maxie chipped in 11.
Against Slocum, the duo of DeBose and Maxie had 18 and 13 points, respectively.
Against Alto, Debose had 15 points to Maxie’s 17.
With this win, the Tigers cap off a hot start to the season with a record of 4-0.
The Bulldogs claimed first place in the bronze bracket of the Latexo Tournment after defeating Alto 50-31 on Saturday.
Senior Kolt Larsen earned All-Tournament honors after averaging 13.5 points per game, 9 rebounds per game, 7.7 assists per game, and 3.3 steals per game throughout the tournament.
In all, Centerville went 2-2, losing to Tarkington 61-53 and to Robinson 68-60 on Thursday, and downing Normangee 45-35 on Friday.
Against Tarkington, Braden White and Iain Kendrick each posted 14 points, while Hardy Brown and Kolt Larsen each chipped in 10. Larsen also pulled down 11 rebounds.
Against Robinson, Brown and Larsen led scoring with 20 points apiece, while Kendrick added 13.
Against Normangee, Larsen poured in 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while Brown had 12 points.
Against Alto, Brown had 16 points and Kendrick added 14. Larsen pulled down 10 rebounds.
On Nov. 18, the Bulldogs lost to Grand Saline 51-41. Kendrick was points leader with 18, while Kolt Larsen posted 10. Brandon McWhorter pulled down 10 boards in the effort.
The Indians went 1-4 in the Wells Tournament, winning their first game 43-37 over West Hardin on Thursday.
Other games include a 69-36 loss to Wells and a 75-19 loss to Woden, both on Friday.
