TRINITY — The Trinity ISD Board of Trustees took extra time at its regular meeting to inform the public about its plans to improve the accountability ratings of all of its campuses.

Superintendent Dr. John Kaufman said that during a public hearing on Oct. 27, Director of Curriculum and Instruction Brittaney Cassidy laid out plans for each campus to improve accountability.

Kaufman said that working closely with ESC Region 6, the district will provide intense training on effective teaching styles, particularly when dealing with the newly adopted Bluebonnet Curriculum, which is high quality materials.

The district looks to make teachers better prepared and equipped to meet the needs of the students, he said. There will be weekly meetings with ESC Region 6 to go over scores, testing and other issues, while providing intense instructional focus at all grade levels, including classroom visits.

The board approved a Turn Around Plan for Lansberry Elementary, and targeted improvement plans for both the Middle School and High School.

The high school plan will allow the district to take advantage of the Effective Schools Framework grant it was awarded for the 2024–2026 school years.

In other business, the trustees:

  • discussed a plan for Walker County Boys and Girls Club to take over the Trinity club. Kaufman said there will be a survey put forth in the district, and the Walker County club will begin the process of looking for donors and sponsors;
  • approved the nominations for the Trinity County Appraisal District Board, and cast its votes evenly between candidates;
  • approved a zero checking account at First National Bank to be used byh Claims Administrative Services Inc., the district’s worker’s compensation administrator;
  • approved hiring Cox and Jones contractors for the additional classrooms at Lansberry Elementary. Kaufman said the bid came in at just under $2 million for the 10 additional classrooms. The project is estimated to be complete by June 17, 2026;
  • approved the purchase of a new Chevrolet Suburban for the district;
  • approved the creation of a committee to review library selections to be presented to the board; and
  • approved the hire of a first-grade teacher.
