TISD talks policy, financial rating

TRINITY — While hearing that the Trinity school district has the highest rating for financial responsibility, Trinity ISD regents also acknowledged new state requirements for private spaces.

Superintendent Dr. John Kaufman said that at the Jan. 26 meeting, trustees were told the district is required to designate the use of private areas, such as boys’ locker rooms and restrooms are for boys, and girls’ locker rooms and restrooms are for girls.

The board can make changes, but those must be announced in advance, Kaufman said. Instances like that would include visiting teams and students requiring special accommodation, and Kaufman said that in most cases it is locker-room issues.

While discussing the district’s Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas results, Business Manager Luann Gallant said they were rated as superior and financially sound, and that the grade was 94 out of 100.

Additionally, the annual audit report showed no deficiencies, and that the district was able to put $400,000 in fund balance.

In other business, the trustees:

  • approved the recommendations of the Library Committee;
  • finished acceptance of TASB update 126;
  • renewed certificates of deposit at First National Bank and reviewed the district investment policy;
  • approved hiring Walsh Gallegos as the firm to perform the superintendent search; and
  • approved Kaufman’s voluntary retirement agreement.
