GROVETON — The Groveton Volunteer Fire Department responded to a vehicle and brush fire on Monday, which firefighters believe started over the weekend.
Fire Chief Glenn Hammond said the fire broke out on Josserand Road sometime Monday afternoon. GVFD responded with an engine, two brush trucks and six firefighters.
He said that getting the fire under control was done quickly, but not before a shed and a van were burned. The fire also consumed two acres of land, and just missed two semi trucks and trailers
Hammond said it looks like it started from a trash pile burn from the weekend, and that the wind probably blew it into the grass.
There were no injuries and no control problems, he said.
•On Thursday, the Trinity Volunteer Fire Department battled a blaze that broke out in an RV parked near FM 356 and Trinity Cove Drive.
Fire Chief Keith Johnson said TVFD responded with two trucks and 10 firefighters and quickly extinguished the fire.
He said the camper was a total loss, but no one was injured, and the cause is undetermined.
