TRINITY — The Trinity ISD Board of Regents handled items that will have impact on future school years.
The votes came at the regular meeting on Feb. 23.
Superintendent Dr. John Kaufman said the board approved, though not unanimously, the 2026-27 school calendar.
Board members John Smith and Monte Huffman voted against the measure, citing the requirement of attending school five days per week until December, when the four-day week resumes.
Kaufman said new state requirements added four instruction days, from 161 to 165, which necessitated the change. In previous years, the four-day week began in November.
Kaufman said that the calendar came about after representatives from each campus and members of the community, with certain parameters, developed three calendars, which was then sent to all staff who then voted.
In a separate matter, the board passed the district improvement plan as well as the targeted improvement plans for each school campus.
Kaufman said the campus plans are mirrored in the district plan; those include how the district will work on growth within STAAR testing, as well as curriculum and instruction processes.
