Trinity drops one to Douglass

TRINITY — The Tigers were outpaced 14-2 by a Douglass team that was ready at the plate and in the field.

It also didn’t help that Douglass was able to post 7 runs in the top of the first, helped by four batters being hit by pitches.

Douglass put up 2 more runs in the third and 4 in the fourth, closing out the fifth with another run, while Trinity didn’t enter the scoreboard until the fourth inning.

David Alexander managed to go 2-for-3 in the effort, while Chance Barron contributed a hit in the game.

Austin Beasley, Hunter Ogden and John Garcia took turns on the mound, combing for 5 strikeouts while giving up 8 hits and walking 7.

Groveton

While the Indians outclassed Alto 16-1 on Friday, they lost 6-5 in nine innings to neighbor Centerville in the Bulldogs’ opening game of the season on March 10.

Centerville started baseball late as the athletes were still in the basketball postseason.

Against Alto, Groveton’s Canyen Hollis led both at the plate and on the mound, going 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs while throwing 10 strikeouts but giving up only 2 hits.

Ty Torregrossa, Gunner Wilson and Jasper Due contributed 2 hits and 2 RBIs each in the effort.

Centerville’s Drew Larsen led the team at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Kolt Larsen and Wyatt Clede each contributed 2 hits.

On the mound for the Bulldogs were Hardy Brown, Kolt Larsen, Drew Larsen and Wyatt Clede, and they combined for 9 strikeouts while giving up 3 hits.

Groveton Cooper Shanafelt led the Indian offense with 2 hits and an RBI. Torregrossa added the only other hit.

Blake Chaney, Jake Snyder, Shanafelt, Jasper Due and Jace Taylor all tried their hands at the mound, combining for 12 strikeouts but giving up 7 walks and 10 hits.

Centerville

On Friday, the Bulldogs edged out Neches 2-1.

Neches drew first blood in the top of the first with a run, one that wasn’t answered by Centerville until the third. The Bulldogs managed a second run two innings later for a 2-1 lead they maintained.

Westin Cornelius, Brice Selman and Wyatt Clede all had hits in the win. Hardy Brown got the win, tossing 7 strikeouts and giving up only 3 hits.

Apple Springs

The Eagles split their outings on the diamond, losing 8-6 to Neches on March 9 but dominating Slocum 14-5 on Friday.

Against Neches, Angel Reyna, Blaize McSwain, Ethan Leblanc, Kayden Roden and Joseph Ocasionea each had hits, with Roden and McSwain each driving in a run.

Roden and Cooper Campbell shared mound duty, throwing only 4 strikeouts while giving up 6 hits.

In the Slocum game, the Eagles combined for 15 hits, with Rance Howell cracking off 4 and Campbell, Ocasiones and Leblanc adding three. Howell also posted 4 RBIs.

Howell, Reyna, Campbell and Roden all brought the heat, combining for 12 strikeouts but giving up 9 hits.
