TRINITY — At the beginning of the 2025 season, Lady Tiger Coach Courtney Willis set a goal for her team of six wins over the season, hoping to start slow in rebuilding a program.
On Friday, Trinity beat Crockett 3-1 (25-20, 25-22, 19-25, 25-12) to end the season at 7-22 (2-8 in district), one better than the team hoped for.
In that game, Braleigh Bush and Ashara English each had 7 kills and 7 aces, while Carolyn Cleveland and Valerie Cleveland had 4, Jasmine Jordan had 3, and KK Ford and Mackenzie Slimp each had 2.
Valerie Cleveland led with 14 digs, while Bush had 11 and Ashara English had 13.
Willis said that overall this season, her players made some big numbers.
Season Stat Leaders in aces were Carolyn Cleveland with 52, Bush with 38, Jasmine Jordan with 35, Ashara English with 29, Valerie Cleveland with 26, and KK Ford with 20.
Tops for kills were Ashara English with 87, Valerie Cleveland with 67, Braleigh Bush with 47, Carolyn Cleveland with 44, and Jasmine Jordan with 31.
Tops for receptions were Jasmine Jordan with 243, Valerie Cleveland with 126, KK Ford with 119, Chrissie Vaughn with 111, and Carolyn Cleveland with 95.
Tops in digs were Jasmine Jordan with 304, Carolyn Cleveland with 193, Valerie Cleveland with 179, KK Ford with 164, and Chrissie Vaughn with 101.
On Oct. 21, Trinity was overpowered by 3A rival Coldspring-Oakhurst 3-0 (11-25, 6-25, 15-25).
Valerie Cleveland had 5 kills on the night, served the lone ace, and led in digs with 14. Chrissie Vaughn added 11 digs.
HEMPHILL — The Lady Indians took care of business in Hemphill Tuesday night with a big win, stopping the Lady Hornets 3-1 (25-16, 21-25, 25-18, 25-13).
Kayleigh Albus had 14 kills and 19 digs on the night; Jannette Bautista had 11 kills, 16 digs, 15 assists and 5 aces; Caila Antley led with 7 aces while posting 19 digs; Alinda Veng had 16 digs and 21 assists; and Abbey Thornton had 13 digs.
Then on Friday, Groveton’s varsity and JV teams capped the season with undefeated district championships.
The Lady Tigers downed Corrigan-Camden 3-0 (25-12, 25-19, 25-19).
Stat leaders were Kayleigh Albus with 11 kills and 13 digs; Jannett Bautista had 4 aces, 16 assists and 13 digs; Abbey Thornton had 10 digs; and Alinda Veng had 13 assists.
Then on Monday, Groveton downed Latexo 3-0 (25-20, 25-14, 25-17) in a postseason tournament warmup game.
Stat leaders were Albus with 13 kills and 12 digs; Caila Antley with 4 aces and 20 digs; Jannett Bautista with 4 aces and 12 assists; and Alinda Veng with 15 assists.
Groveton travels to Jasper on Thursday to face West Hardin in the bi-district round. Game time is 6 p.m.
While the Lady Eagles girls ended district with a 3-0 (10-25, 11-25, 17-25) loss to Oakwood on Oct. 21, the team still managed to enter the playoffs, facing Trinidad on Thursday.
Head Coach Raegyn Moreno said Brooke Brister had a great game with 4 kills and 1 block, while Abrie McWhorter added 1 kill and 3 digs to her long list of assists to the front-row hitters.
