Trinity goes 1-3 in Somerville tournament

SOMERVILLE — The Lady Tigers split with Hearne but lost to Buffalo and Somerville during a weekend tournament.

Trinity lost 2-0 (14-25, 8-25) to Buffalo to open play on Thursday, but came back to down Hearne 2-1 (26-24, 24-26, 15-6).

Head Coach Courtney Willis highlighted players in the win, including Ashara English who had 4 kills, followed by Valerie Cleveland with 4 kills, and Carolyn Cleveland with 3 kills. Libero Jasmine Jordan had 10 digs in that game.

In the last game on Thursday, Trinity was downed 2-0 (16-25, 20-25) by Somerville.

On Saturday, Hearne flipped the script, downing the Lady Tigers 2-1 (2520, 27-25, 17-15).

Willis said that on Aug. 19, they played Kennard and lost a hard-fought battle 3-1 (15-25, 22-25, 25-17, 14-25).

Willis praised the team effort, saying the squad definitely started looking more like a team.

Apple Springs

The Lady Eagles lost to Highway 94 rival Centerville 3-2 on Aug. 19, giving the Lady Bulldogs their first win.

Then in the weekend Gary tournament, Apple Springs lost 4, falling to Alto 2-0 and Arp 2-0 on Thursday, losing 2-0 to Alto again on Friday, and falling 2-0 to Waskom on Saturday.

Groveton

The Lady Indians went 1-2 in the Lufkin varsity tournament, losing to Tarkington 2-0 (12-25, 13-25) but winning against Chester 2-1. On Friday, Groveton lost to Little Cypress-Mauriceville 2-0.

On Aug. 19, the Lady Indians downed the Centerville Tigers 3-0 (25-13, 25-12, 25-21).
