Trinity ISD moving to incentive pay

TRINITY — Teachers in the Trinity school system could see additional money in the paycheck now that the state has approved its Teacher Incentive Allotment plan.

TIA is a state program sponsored by the Texas Education Association that awards effective teachers.

Superintendent Dr. John Kaufman said the district will begin the program with teachers in STAAR-tested areas, mainly math and reading, in grades 3 through 9. Baselines will be set this year, and the following year, if there are increases student performance, those teachers will see stipends from the state.

Kaufman said the program will be expanded the following year.

•At the June 22 meeting of the Board of Trustees, the board approved the lease-purchase of 170 iPads to be used in Kindergarten, Pre-K, first grade and special education classes at Lansberry Elementary School.

Kaufman said those devices will replace Chromebooks, which will be moved to junior high. Cost for the change will be $74,451.50. He also said that the iPads are more convenient and easier for the younger students to use.

In other business, the board:

  • approved ESC6 contracts amounting to more than $97,000;
  • approved an agreement with CRI Carr, Riggs, and Ingram for the annual audit;
  • acknowledged new hires in the district;
  • approved the 2023-2026 Safety Audit Survey; and
  • discussed progress on the construction of the new wing at Lansberry Elementary School.
