TRINITY — The Friday loss to Coldspring was completely overshadowed by the Jan. 20 win over Anderson-Shiro, as the 53-45 victory also was the 100th career win for Coach Ashley Sustaita.

The players’ excitement in the game was palpable, and when the final buzzer sounded, the team poured off the bench to congratulate their coach.

Athletic Director Shaun Stout presented Sustaita with a commemorative banner, ball and balloons after the game.

Sustaita, however, credited her team for win, saying it was “all them.”

Bringing the achievement home were Mariah Tyson, who scored 19 points and brought down 15 boards. Alexa Pruitt added 10 points and 9 rebounds in the effort.

On Friday night, just ahead of a fast-approaching Texas winter freeze, the Coldspring Lady Trojans flipped the script, downing the heavily favored Lady Tigers 63-54.

Entering the night, Trinity, Anderson, and Coldspring were locked in a three-way tie atop the district standings at 3-1.

The opening quarter saw both teams trading baskets in a tightly contested back-and-forth affair. Momentum shifted dramatically in the second quarter when Coldspring head coach Trey Bullock called a crucial timeout and adjusted the game plan, after which the Lady Trojans went on a 9-0 unanswered run.

Trinity responded in the third quarter with a strong push, cutting into the deficit, but Coldspring poured in 25 points while holding Trinity to just 10.

Tyson led Trinity with 17 points and 11 rebounds, and Braleigh Bush added 13 points.
