Trinity makes changes to water ordinance

TRINITY — The Trinity City Council ended water credits for elected officials, city employees, past council members, firefighters and certain widows.

At the April meeting, the council showed that water service was losing about $500,000 annually, and the credits amounted to $70,000 per year.

City Manager Tracy Hutto said that many credits, especially to widows of firefighters, will be phased out; since firefighters get a small retirement stipend, the city will consider making changes to increase that and then phase out those credits.

In a separate matter, the council approved an amendment to its ordinance regarding wrecker services.

Previously, the city only contracted with firms within the city for wrecker services, most notably for the police department following collisions. The change extended the region  to within 1 mile of the city limits, and will allow for other firms to be placed into rotation.

In other business, the council:

  • denied a request to rent the Community Center park grounds and use of restrooms free of charge due to the requestor not having a non-profit status. Instead, the council approved a $200 rental fee;
  • approved the installation of security cameras at the Community Center and baseball fields;
  • approved water services for Gregory Presswood and the RV park;
  • discussed Price and Colwell water account, which concerns the Deer Run subdivision, with City Attorney Colton Hay; and
  • discussed improvements to the city website.
