Trinity trustees look toward expansion

TRINITY — The Trinity ISD Board of Trustees continue to explore construction projects, including new classrooms for the bursting-at-the-seams elementary school.

Superintendent Dr. John Kaufman said that at the Jan. 27 meeting, Z Design and Consulting presented its construction proposal and offered suggestions for an upcoming construction project.

Kaufman had said in the past that the project will be funded in-house instead of through any tax measure.

He did say that the board is fairly sure about approving work for eight additional classrooms at Lansberry Elementary, and once bids come in, the trustees will make a determination on when to start. However, a plan to construct a building to house proposed auto mechanics and cosmetology programs remains undecided.

The board did table approval of any designs until a special meeting scheduled for Thursday.

In other business, the trustees:

  • approved an order of election for May. Council members Kevin Searcy, Monte Huffman and Maggie Trevino are up for election, and interested candidates have until Feb. 14 to file for election;
  • approved the annual audit, which shows the district has stable finances and $6.96 million in its fund balance; and
  • discussed the District Vulnerability Assessment from Texas Education Association, which showed very minor issues which were fixed immediately. Kaufman said the TEA representative said the district is far ahead of most campuses in state with respect to security.
