Trump, Cruz win Trinity County votes

GROVETON — While the local races were foregone conclusions, all being uncontested, and Trent Ashby running unopposed for another term as State Representative for District 9, the state and federal races show the county was almost fully conservative in their election choices.

Additionally, the voter turnout was uncharacteristically high, according to Elections Administrator Priscilla Rasbeary.

Of the 12,235 registered voters in the county, 7,398 cast ballots for a 60.4 percent voter turnout. In contrast, Rasbeary said that in the 2020 election, less than 6,000 votes were cast. All county winners are registered Republicans.

In Trinity County, Donald Trump garnered 6,121 votes over Kamala Harris’ 1,192. Libertarian candidate Chase Oliver picked up 26 votes, while Green Party candidate Jill Stein received 17. The race has been called in Trump’s favor.

At the federal level, incumbent U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz has 5,897 county votes (5,965,513 statewide) to challenger Colin Allred’s 1,293 (4,990,224 statewide) and retains his seat.

Incumbent U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions garnered 6,071 Trinity County votes, and 192,834 votes from the district. Opponent Mark Lorenzen received 1,077 Trinity County votes, and 97,711 votes district-wide.

Incumbent Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick defeated challenger Katherine Culbert 6,074,975 to 4,243,058; in Trinity County, those votes were 5,859 for Craddick and 1,004 for Culbert.

All vote totals are unofficial until canvassed.
