Hunter Boling placed second in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 50 freestyle at the Regional Swim Meet, following an outstanding District Meet where he earned first place in both events. He will represent Groveton at the state meet later this month.

GROVETON — The Groveton ISD Board of Trustees approved a plan to have all teachers in core subjects certified by the 2028-29 school year.
Superintendent Jim Dillard said the vote was taken at the Jan. 28 meeting.
He said the state wants teachers in all foundational subjects — ELA, math, science, and social studies — to be certified in each subject. However, because of teacher shortage that affects smaller districts especially, there are some that are not, which was allowed.
In a similar vein, after public hearings, the board approved targeted improvement plans for the elementary and junior/senior high schools, also required by the state.
In other business, the board:
- approved the annual audit report, which came back clean, with an unmodified opinion that is consistent with reasonable fiscal practices;
- approved policy updates, including to the public records policy that allows the district to designate non-business days. State law requires public entities to respond to public records requests within 10 business days;
- accepted the resignation of Brittney Anderson;
- set March 6 as snow makeup day; and
- honored its members for School Board Appreciation Month.
