Social media misses facts in some posts

GROVETON — Sheriff Woody Wallace said that after many years in law enforcement, you start to notice a pattern.

He offered real examples of reasons people have gotten mad at the Sheriff’s Office and decided to blast us on Facebook.

  • A deputy would not go pick up my cigarettes, candy, and chips and deliver them to me.
  • A deputy wrote me a ticket.
  • A deputy would not arrest my neighbor because their cat was in my garage.
  • A deputy would not arrest my neighbor because their rooster crowed too early.
  • A deputy told me the issue was a civil matter and not a criminal offense.
  • A deputy would not arrest my neighbor because they put a camera facing my house.
  • A deputy would not arrest my neighbor because they shined a light on my camera and now I cannot see what they are doing.
  • A deputy investigated me after I attempted to cover up what appeared to be a potential crime scene.
  • A deputy arrested my kid after I called because he had drugs in his room and would not release him the next day like I demanded.
  • A deputy would not arrest my wife because she was drunk and “would not mind me.”

Wallace said the Sheriff’s Office does not arrest people because someone demands it; instead, they enforce the law based on facts and probable cause.

“Sometimes that makes people happy,” he said. “Sometimes it sends them straight to Facebook.”
