TRINITY — One man was arrested after water utilities operators found a seemingly forged check and a small amount of illegal drugs that were part of a bill payment.
According to Sheriff Woody Wallace, deputies were dispatched to the Westwood Shores Municipal Utility District Office Wednesday after employees opened an envelope from the overnight drop box that “didn’t exactly scream responsible bill payer.”
Wallace said that inside the envelope was a shutoff notice, a check and a plastic bag filled with a suspicious powdery substance. Deputies confirmed the substance was methamphetamines, and believe the check also was forged.
On Thursday, deputies served a search warrant at the related address and discovered more methamphetamines.
A suspect, Gerald Brent Liedtke, 73, was arrested for forgery and possession of a controlled substance. A second suspect at the residence suffered a medical emergency and was transported to a local hospital, with charges pending.
