The forecast for this week is absolutely fantastic. With all this warm weather, it is amazing I have not seen any red breasted robins in Westwood Shores subdivision by this time.
I hope you have been watching the “Americas” series with Tom Hanks as the narrator. I have re-learned so many things I had forgotten and learned so many things I did not know or believe possible. This wealth of knowledge sure makes you proud to be an American inhibitor, and makes you want to travel and explore other regions of the earth.
Spring is in the air, and you know what this means. Golf, tennis, baseball, horse races, NASCAR, swimming, picnics, and beautiful blooms everywhere. I can’t believe I thought West Texas was the best area in Texas, but east Texas is hard to beat with trees and greenery. I do still miss the West Texas sunsets though.
• The Trinity Youth Baseball and Softball League opening day is March 28. I was told there will not be a parade this year. Their fundraiser to support the league is for each team to donate a gift basket to be raffled off on Saturday, opening day, along with a shot gun that has been donated to be raffled off on opening day also. The funds raised will be used to buy equipment, chalk, supplies, pay for umpires, and to maintain the concession stand staples.
For more information and schedules, please contact Amber Ogden, president of the league, on Messenger or Facebook.
• Trinity is very fortunate to have so many activities for young people to attend in this community. The churches, organizations, and school districts make our county extraordinary.
Extracurricular activities during and outside the school campus in our Trinity County are phenomenal. We have three majors school districts that provide activities and excellent education to make all students well rounded and successful.
Even the smallest communities in the County do their part in raising money for the 4-H and FFA students to be able to participate in livestock shows and provide money for students to have projects and equal chances to win scholarships in these events.
The Trinity Community Fair Association is another organization that is responsible for training future leaders of Trinity County. This organization has been sponsoring 4-H and FFA students for 75 years and is already planning for their 76th year in 2025. Rules and guidelines may change, but the anticipation, fun and excitement never changes. We are all “carnies” at heart.
• You may think I am silly to continue to write about our community’s efforts and achievements, but without the leadership, direction and caring of the community leaders, how else would the young people know how to lead, govern, support and provide jobs for their future citizens?
Activities are great but think about the services the churches and health groups provide every day, and 24/7. We have so many more amenities than other communities and it is partly because of the location and foresight by its founders 150 years ago.
Their tenacity to prepare for their legacy, prosperity and longevity was an ingrained trait of their DNA.

• As most of you know, the Trinity Lions Club is one of the oldest clubs in Texas and has been serving the International Lions Club for more than 97 years. Helen Keller first called on an organization in Chicago to help the blind and thus the nonprofit Lions Club was formed. Our motto is “We Serve.”
On March 5, the Trinity Lions Club presented the Trinity Police Department and the Trinity County Sheriff’s department with 48 “Kids Comfort Kits.” The two representatives who were introduced to receive these kits during our lunchtime meeting at the MidCoast Hospital were Trinity Chief of Police Steve Jeter and Trinity County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jeremy Carroll. Pictures were taken and the members were thanked profusely.
For those who do not know, the Kids Comfort Kits are soft toy animals that are given to children who are in a situation or caught up in a stop or arrest made by law officers against their parents or guardian in their presence. According to physicians, children respond well to soft cuddly toys when frightened or anxious in precarious situations.
Besides various charities we contribute to internationally, we have service projects we pledge to do for our community as well. One of these projects for 2025 under the direction of President Dr. Garry Reece was the Kids Comfort Kits, and we also donate to the food banks of Trinity and give scholarships to TISD Senior students.
So come to the Trinity Lions Club Third Annual Classic Car Show April 12 and help support your local Lions Club serve our community. See you there.
